Spread soft butter on anything, anytime. Fill lid with room temperature butter and put about an inch of water in the bottom of the pot. When you place the lid in the pot, the water seals oxygen out of the butter which keeps it from spoiling. Leave this on your counter, and change the water every 10 days or so.
